Get Plastic Totes Instead Of Boxes
A lot of people simply buy or find a lot of cardboard boxes that they will use to stuff all of their belongings into before placing it all in a self storage unit. The thing is though, even if the units appear to be clean, they can still end up with mice in them. While mice can chew through plastic, that thick plastic will take them much more effort than a flimsy cardboard box. Since mice want the easy way to get what they need, they may be more likely to leave your stuff alone and chew through the thin cardboard boxes.
Keep Like Items Together
Whether you will not be going back into the containers you pack up until you clear out the storage unit or you go back into the unit every once in a while to grab things, you want to make sure that you are going to be able to easily find things. This can be done when you pack everything together in an organized fashion. For example, pack all of your kitchen stuff together and use totes that are of the same color. Pack all bathroom items together and in totes of a similar color. This way, whenever it is time to retrieve something of yours, you will have a better idea of where to start looking for it. You might even want to label the outside of the totes with some details of what is in them, making it all that much easier on yourself later down the road.
With those few points in mind, you will want to make sure that you are moving forward with your plan to move your things into storage units. Just make sure that you are buying the proper packing materials and that you are renting the best possible storage unit rentals in your area. This might mean taking a few extra steps in your plan, but the extra effort will be more than worth it.
